I love cake. I'm not really picky. But IF I had to choose a favorite, I would say it would have to be a red velvet with cream cheese icing, or vanilla cake with vanilla frosting.
I have been considering baking my own wedding cakes. I know it seems like a huge undertaking, but I'm thinking that it can't be all that bad as long as I want a basic cake with minimal decoration. Also, I would save TONS of money. And as we know, we're on a TIGHT budget for this wedding, so every penny saved somewhere is a penny best spent elsewhere.
Tonight, I made cakes. Well, actually yesterday, I baked the cake, and tonight I made the frosting and iced one of the cakes. I made buttercream frostings in vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and coffee-chocolate combo.
The coffee wasn't that great with chocolate cake, and the chocolate would go best on a vanilla cake because too much chocolate is just that... too much chocolate.
The cakes were still very moist and yummy. BUT I decided I do not like chocolate cake that much.
We still have another cake to frost and taste, so I'll let you guys know how that comes out soon! Then, hopefully, I'll make a decision and stick to it!
