Glide Bikes Go Glider Balance Bike, Teach your kiddo to ride their bike without training wheels

Welcome to the "Whatever Goes" Giveaway Hop hosted by Mommy's Favorite Things and Mama's Baby Cupcakes.

This hop is an open theme so whatever the blogger wants to showcase goes!! After visiting my giveaway, make sure you use the linky below to take a look at the other bloggers and see what they have to offer! Each blog has a minimum prize package of $25 per winner.

Our giveaway item is one AMAZING Balance Bike from Glide Bikes!

Glide Bikes makes multiple balance bikes for children of ALL ages: the Ezee Glider for ages 2-4.5, the Mini Glider for kids ages 2-5, the Go Glider for ages 5-10, and the Super Glider for ages 10-adult. Not sure which one to get for your kiddo? Check out their sizing chart. The major thing I noticed between the Ezee Glider and the Mini Glider is that the Ezee Glider is just a little shorter for petite, little tots that are just smaller than the average kiddo.

When other neighborhood kids are riding their bikes to each other's houses and parks, etc, this exclusion of not being able to participate with their peers causes some sadness, some embarrassment and quite a bit of frustration with your kiddos. I know how it can be when it seems like you're the only kid on the block that can't ride their bike, and rather than tell your friends you can't do it, you just say you don't WANT to. This then just perpetuates the preference for more sedentary play options, and oftentimes is part of the gateway to obesity.

Guess what? I have a simple and beautiful answer to this issue.  Glide Bikes enables your child to learn how to ride their bicycle without training wheels, safely, effectively, without fear, and at their own pace. The Go Glider bike includes brakes to get children acquainted to a hand braking system long before their first ride on a traditional bike. This helps with safety as well as peace if mind for your child. This creates less stress, and allows learning a bike to be the fun experience it should be!

As you all know, I'm a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, and I see children between 0-21 years of age. A lot of the children I see have poor core strength, decreased confidence with their feet off the ground and perform intensive sensory integration treatment.

I selected the Go Glider for review; because, I was interested in using it at the clinic I currently work for to help the kiddos be able to learn to ride a bicycle. When it comes to occupational therapy, it's not just handwriting, fine motor skills, dressing- it's also other areas (occupations) in the child's life which affect by their ability to perform and function independently and safely. The inability to ride a bicycle becomes an actual functional deficit with play and leisure activity around 5-7 years of age.

This Go Glider bike can hold a child up to 125lbs; however, I won't lie, I tried it myself! I have to demonstrate for a lot of my patients; because, verbal instructions can be difficult to process for a LOT of kiddos.  Having no pedals allows kids to conquer the first daunting task in becoming an independent biker- balance. Made with quality materials, with proper care this bike will last through multiple children, and then be passed on to friends. Or, even, hey, why not donate to your local pediatric therapy clinic after your kiddo is finished with learning on it!?! We receive little reimbursement and it's quite expensive to make sure we have all of the equipment in order to help our patients meet their goals.

I see children that have difficulty riding bikes for a plethora of reasons; some of the reasons are due to poor core strength and postural control, decreased balance, low endurance,  or ability to perform the reciprocal foot patterning for pedaling. Truly, there are SO many reasons that result in a childs' inability to learn the skill of bicycle riding. For more indepth information, as to the probable deficits and possible ways to help, as well as more detail regarding Balance Bikes, check out my post OT: Teach Bicycle Riding without Training Wheels.

So, you mamas and daddies out there, if you have an older child still isn't riding a two wheeler bike, but you are worried about the frustration, stress and decreased self-esteem that comes with learning, the Go Glider is the perfect way to teach them to balance independently, safely, effectively, without fear, and at their own pace! This will make an EXCELLENT Holiday gift for Christmas, Hanukkah, Festivus, Winter Solstice, you know, whatever you celebrate. :)
