About Action Baby Carriers:
Action Baby Carriers has been around for quite a few years, but just had a recent change in ownership.Andrea and Curtis recently purchased Action Baby Carriers in September 2013. We are a family run operation located in Detroit, Michigan. We are passionate about babywearing and find it one of our most useful parenting tools.  Our baby is worn every single day.  We are dedicated to producing a high quality, comfortable, and useful carrier for you and your family. We make our carriers in our workshop, which is a very large room that we use for cutting, assembling, and sewing and a smaller room which we use for packing and storage.
How Action Baby Carriers Started Out:
Action Baby Carriers did not start off as the buckle carrier that it is today.  Our first product was named Active Mom Carriers and was a mei tai style (tie) baby carrier.  It all started in 2006 when a few family members of our founder, Angela Alexander, were having babies.  Not wanting to be typical in the purchasing of a gift, she decided to get a bit creative.  She figured she could sew up a few baby carriers.  The first one took 9 hours. Whew… But, oh no, she didn’t stop there!  For some crazy reason she decided to continue on and make 2 more for twins that her cousin were expecting!  Getting the process down a bit she cut her time to nearly 17.5 hours. Impressive! She was being watched by her husband.  The eye of a typical math wiz, who sees systems and patterns and “time saving techniques” in every process.  She tried to hold her own, but he stepped in.  He got the process down to 1.5 hours- how?  She still has no idea!  But he did.  Angela then had the brilliant idea to post a quick question on a babywearing forum- “anyone want to buy a carrier?”  35 orders over night and bam, a business!
The demand from the Active Mom Carrier fans was to move into the buckle carriers.  It was protested on the manufacturing end for a while.  This means webbing, buckles a different design….  But they listened, as all good companies do, and rolled out Action Baby Carriers! Action Baby Carriers became an instant hit for several reasons. 1) It was (and still is) made in the USA. 2) The design was simple and effective. Not leaving painful red marks on the legs of babies (typical in the industry) and had an internal support system for weight displacement. 3) Cost….  Everyone wants quality and affordability.  Action Baby Carriers has honored our commitment to making sure that parents can afford to carry and bond with their babies.
The idea of a little gift, turned into a question “anyone want to buy a carrier?”, turned into a business- is quite beautiful!  Note: It no longer takes us hours to make a carrier! :-) In making thousands, in our own factory, we have a quick and quite productive process.

It's an exciting time with Action Baby Carriers. Now they've had a change in ownership, they've come out with some ADORABLE new prints, and actually have REAL solid carriers~ brown, black and my personal favorite neutral, grey. Check them out!!!

I love my Action Baby Carrier Toddler Soft Structured Carrier in their Camper Print. I received this a couple months back and haven't really had many opportunities to try this baby out, mostly due to Nugget being sick so much lately.

Anyhow, I decided the BEST way to test this carrier is on three different occasions. The same type of occasions that YOU'D be using a carrier. Well, my test days were at the grocery store, the zoo and a hike with the family.

Well, let me tell you- I was able to make it through the zoo with Nugget on my back with LITTLE fatigue.  We aren't a stroller family, never have been. We have a gorgeous stroller in our closet that's been used maybe three times. Why? We love to wear our Nugget and she loves to be worn. We'll never be a stroller family, and that's nothing I'm worried about! We did the Walk for Autism at the Phoenix Zoo, and I was able to walk for most of 4 hours with Nugget on my back. She didn't get overheated, like we did in another brand carrier we used another time. Most importantly, as a 28 month old trouble maker, she really didn't mind being IN the carrier.

One thing I realized after ordering was that she would have EASILY fit into the "child size" carrier. However, I also checked it out with my 7 year old niece, and she fit in here perfectly, she's ├╝ber teeny just about 43 lbs.

Another thing I love about Action Baby's Toddler carrier is that it's actually quite easy to get your kiddo in and out by yourself. That's one HUGE thing for me when it comes to carriers. I LOVE when I have a carrier I can grab out of my car, put Nugget inside, and grocery shop in peace- knowing she's safely on my back, not pulling things off the shelves and putting random (GMO) foods in our cart! Also, when we're both out and about, shopping in the mall or at the Farmers' Market, this carrier was SO easy to switch between my husband and I. This is quite important to note, as carrier adjustments can be frustrating when one person is not very broad shouldered anymore and somewhat petite (er, uh, 5'2" short?) and the other partner is tall and slender at 5'11". We don't have this issue with Action Baby.

  60. Those are so cute! I know for me when my kids were little I didn't have much and the carrier I had was a simple navy blue. These have such cute designs and seem like they would have fit and been so much more comfortable!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love all the different patterns they offer! They are so adorable and it's great that they make a carrier specific to toddlers.

    ReplyDelete
  62. what a soothing and safe way for babies to travel. The soft warmth of the carriers must make a baby feel safe and secure.

    ReplyDelete
  63. THE BABIES ALWAYS FEEL MORE CODDLED WHEN THEY ARE CARRIED THAT WAY. WHO DOESN'T WANT A PIGGY BACK RIDE EVERYDAY!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think that these are the best things ever! When my 2nd child was just a few months old we discovered these, I like the ones that can be attached to the front or the back. My baby used to want me to hold him all the time, I loved holding him and found that this made it possible. The only thing is to check their legs & feet every now and then to make sure their legs or feet aren't "falling asleep" or losing circulation...Other than that, there weren't any problems for us. 'Wish we'd've had one for our firstborn.
