Make It Monday - Hair Clip Organizer

The saga of organizing hair accessories continues.  Last Monday we created a Headband Organizer from an Oatmeal Container.  This week's task is an on the wall, organized display for my daughter's beloved hair barrettes and clip.

Yep, on the wall. No more drawers full of hair clips for this family!

This craft works great with a picture frame that you aren't using.  I've also found some super cheap frames at Goodwill and in the clearance/damaged section at Micheal's.  If your frame needs a new look you can always use paint and/or Bling to match your decor.

  • Picture Frame (just the frame - no glass)
  • Wide Ribbon (I used 7/8" wide)
  • Staple Gun & Staples
  • Items to hang your frame (ex. hammer, nail, picture frame hook if your frame doesn't have one)

1. Determine what direction your picture frame will hang.

2. Place the frame face down (so you are looking at the part that will be hung on the wall).

3. Determine the placement of your ribbon.

4. Place ribbon good side down on the back of your frame and staple into place.

5. Have ribbon go across open portion of frame and pull tight.
(this part is easiest to have another adult help hold the ribbon tight)

6. Staple ribbon to opposite end and cut off remainder. (Don't cut it right next to the staples.  Leave a little bit of room - see pictures above.)

7. Repeat steps 4-6 until you have the desired number of ribbons going across your frame.

8. Organize hair clips by fastening them to the ribbons.

9. Hang up your Hair Clip Organizer and start doing the Happy Dance - you are done!

*In our case my daughter needs SEVERAL of these, so repeat as needed!

Please Comment Below:
  • How do you organize the items that you and/or your children use everyday?

  • What would you like organization ideas for?

Disclosure: We prefer for "Craft Day" not to turn into "Rush to the ER Day."  Always remember that staple guns should be used with adult supervision. If you have any questions, please contact Heather RamblingsOfHeather{at} gmail {dot} com
