I love play kitchens, and love pretend cooking. Play kitchens seem to just help foster the growth of imaginative play. After all, weren't the best toys when you were a baby the giant pasta pot and a variety of clangy spoons, ladles and lids? You problem solve, you imagine what you're cooking, you pretend you are going through the steps to make a hamburger!

One thing I have learned through  my work as a pediatric OT that dabbles in feeding therapy, is that a lot of sensory kids have a MAJOR aversion to foods that they have had maybe 1-2 negative experiences with in the past. Maybe it's the texture on the hands, maybe it's the mouth-feel, maybe it's the color. Every kid is different. What I love about this set is that you can "pretend" cook foods that a child may have an aversion to, in a method called desensitization. Maybe, if we can play with a fake carrot today, we'll be able to paint with one next week? It's always about the progression.

Plus, I'm not particularly a fan of the "fast food" play kits (yak!)- I mean, talk about hooking kids in young! Not only that, having healthy play/toy foods in the kitchen sets a great example for those littles that love to try to "replicate" their meals.

Don't want to wait for the giveaway to end? Buy one on Amazon! They even sell a three-pack of healthy food options! It's on sale on Amazon right now, so you can pick one up and set it aside for Christmas! Yes, I went there.
