2015 in 2015 Challenge

Who's up for a challenge? Who wants to join in on the fun? We're challenging YOU to purge 2015 things from your home; clutter, junk, etc., in the year 2015. Yep, that's right, we're starting a BLOG CHALLENGE!!! This challenge is hosted by Heather over at Mommy's Favorite Things and me, here at Ramblings of Mama

The 2015 in 2015 challenge is encouraging yourself and others to try to get rid of 2015 items in the entire year. That is 5.5 items a day, just less than 40 items per week.

I know, I know, it sounds daunting... But believe it or not, most of America is living with too much stuff, and getting rid of the clutter is a good way to being stress free and feeling like you have more space. The average American 3 bedroom home has 350,000 items!!!! Can you believe that? That statistic alone is crazy, and shows just how much we tend to buy and hide things we don't use. That's why we have garages full of *stuff* that we don't use and really don't NEED, or we have sheds or storage units full of things that just get thrown out there only to be ignored and forgotten.

I probably have 2015 things in my garage that I could easily get rid of... When we moved across the country, we left quite a bit of things at the curb, tossing a LOT... But I have a hard time letting things go. It's hard for me. I'm not a hoarder- per say, But I don't like getting rid of things unless it's absolutely necessary...

Don't believe me? Just take a look:

Yes, that's my extremely unorganized garage. The pile on top? Believe it or not, my husband spent a few hours out there last weekend trying to organize some, looking for the Christmas decorations. He needed to get out of there before his abdominal surgery a week ago...   The bottom image are toys and work supplies from my work as an Occupational Therapist. I intend on returning to work as an OT once things are settled with our twins, but for now? This stuff needs to be cleaned, organized and I need to part with the toys or games that are missing pieces.

Heather and I got really excited about this idea (it was hers, I joined that party), and I got excited about sharing with our readers. We decided to do this and create a blog challenge so everyone can support each other! Seeing others doing what you're doing and seeing their accomplishments is the biggest motivator!! Our Facebook group has become quite active, as people are starting to clean in prep for the holidays coming up, as well as just becoming motivated by the group and sharing posts of their purges!

Let's all support each other and build each other up! Let's get in some last minute donations before the end of the year to help with your deductions on your income taxes!

There will be a bi-weekly post on Mommy's Favorite Things AND Ramblings of Mama that will include some a mini checklist, pictures of our progress, features from our community members' recent purges, and a linky where you can link up YOUR own blog posts if you choose to participate as well. Even if they're just posts about spring cleaning. Any time you're getting rid of stuff, it COUNTS!!!

Since we want EVERYONE to be able to participate there is also a  Facebook page AND Instagram page! Feel free to add your friends, cousins, uncles/aunts, coworkers, partners, whoever you think would be game for the 2015 in 2015 challenge!!! We want them ALL- EVEN the skeptics! Post to FB about your progress and follow us on instagram for more motivation! List what you got rid of, purged, donated or repurposed. Post a picture, post a list, whatever!! Share with everyone what you did to take a little weight off your shoulders and live a little lightly that week! If you post a picture on Instagram, tag us @2015in2015 or hashtag #2015in2015, even follow along with others' posts that we haven't reposted yet, searching those that used the hashtag #2015purge.

Let's get started!!!
Come one, come all! Join the

  2. I'm ashamed to admit this. There are two of us in a five bedroom house that is packed full of stuff. I really need to donate some things , maybe have a yard sale, and for the rest, the junk, put it out on community clean up day.

  4. What a neat idea (I guess that was a pun, lol). I totally want to participate. It's not that we have that much stuff, it's that our home is SO small! I feel like less stuff = less stress. Clutter definitely stresses me out.

  13. Wow, we need this in our house. My husband is a packrat big time. I joined the FB group and I'm thinking of a way to present this to my husband so he doesn't get defensive about it. He knows he needs to clean out that basement and he keeps saying he's working on it but he needs some kind of motivation besides my nagging. Great idea you ladies came up with, I'm looking forward to getting rid of my stuff anyway!

  14. I think this is a great idea! Although at 6 items a day, I may have nothing left at the end of the year. I try to be clutter free already. Maybe 2 items a day will work for me. Thanks for the idea!!
