2015 in 2015: Week 1 & 2

Welcome to 2015 in 2015, hosted by Mommy's Favorite Things and Ramblings of Mama. Where we are going to purge our homes and our lives and get rid of 2015 items in a year.

The average 3 bedroom american home has 350,000 items in it! Doesn't seem possible right? Count every toy, count every piece of paper, count all the pens you have. It adds up quickly. This is only a beginning, but getting rid of 2015 items in a year is HUGE!

Heather began this process late in 2013.

I started in September and by December 31st I had gotten rid of right around 1200 items. Some big, some small, but definitely starting to make a difference in my home.
This year things were a bit slower as I had my baby in January. But by June I was in full force. This year I am at over 2300 items!!
It IS possible to purge the stuff and get it out the door. And my house runs more smoothly now. Instead of moving stuff around from one room to another, I threw it out. Now my catch all kitchen counter is almost always clear 100% of the time. Which means I can spend 2 minutes cleaning it and wiping it down as opposed to the 30 minutes it would take to clear it and clean it previously.

So with that, I bring you weeks 1 and 2 of 2015 in 2015. We decided to post bi-weekly, simply because, it's easier on Heather and I, with young littles.

Here is your checklist for the next two weeks. Print it and mark things off as you go!

If the items above don't pertain to you, do something else instead and write it down.

2015 items is 5.52 items a day, so the way I have configured it is just 6 items a day. If you do this every single day you will be over your 2015 mark at the end of the year.
And of course there is no need to do exactly what we put here. Please if you see something that is garbage, throw it out, write it down, and SHARE in our Facebook group!

We are on Instagram where we will be sharing people's purge photos. So tag us and we'll share it too!! We're also on Facebook. Join us there and post your lists of what you've gotten rid of as well as photos and just a place to chat and have some fun!

Who is ready to begin??? It all starts NOW!

What are you going to purge this week?

  5. My one and only New Years Resolution is to de-clutter our house and I started doing so yesterday. Doing it by a checklist is a great idea, and one I will adopt.

  6. I really like this and will try to do as much as I can. I like that you have it broken down but I don't have 6 of some of those things to begin with. No way do we have 6 extra pair of shoes to chuck but I should be able to find 2. Thank you.

    1. These are totally just ideas to get you started! We have some people in the group that find 1-2 of one thing, but realize there's TONS of something else and go bonkers!

  8. YES! I am so in! Thanks for the checklist to guide me along the way - it will make this so much easier! I am also revving up my simplification by reading what is supposed to be a great book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, by Marie Kondo.

  11. What a great idea - I need to do this. My house with 2015 less 'things' would be a great improvement.

  13. I am constantly donating things I no longer use or need. My sister in law sells A'llasta. The parties are so much fun because you can sell your things and make money and or buy things as well

  19. I joined the group! and I'm working on it. I actually have some catching up to do but I know what I want to bag and box up so I should have no problem. It's just harder getting my husband and son to play along.

  20. This is going to take me a while! but I'm sure the outcome will definitely be worth it! I think the best place for me to start is my closet...or my kids closets...turning all of the hangers backwards and when i wear it putting it back the right way, getting rid of anything backwards after a month...
