2015 in 2015 Weeks 3 & 4

Our 2015 in 2015 challenge facebook group has been working with a vengeance over the past two weeks!

Heather of Mommy's Favorite Things and I are absolutely in awe how many people are excited about participating in this challenge.

It is quite amazing how much people have been motivated by and are motivating one another. It feels like a great weight is lifted once you start to get to purging junk and minimize the clutter in your homes. Everyone in our group has been doing phenomenally, and below are a handful of the piles of clutter and quotes from some group members.

From Jill L:

Ok, I have been a BUSY mama today. I decided it was time to put away the Christmas decorations into the attic...... Yeah... Little did I know that my daughter whom has moved back for a brief time, loaded my attic with her stuff. Like I couldn't walk in at all, I opened the door and cried.....
So, I didn't go ALL through the attic, I just didn't have it in me. But I cleaned at the top of our stairs, and then part of the attic.
The first picture is almost all the donateable items - clothing, coats, etc.
The second picture is the top of the stairs. I wish I had taken a before... All that is in the totes is family China that I cannot get hubby to get rid of and playdough toys and a small thing of tools. The last picture is all the garbage and recycleables! Yuck! I need another garbage bag!

From Morgan L:

Discarded at least 35 items from my big trunk of college stuff. I was a writing major, so I had a ton of papers and notebooks, and some of it had to go. More of it really needs to go, but I need to take time and go through that stuff very carefully. This was a good start. 425/2015.

From Karen L:

Did not get a lot done this week. Didn't figure I would during school time (we homeschool). However, I entered decluttering mode this weekend. 23 items gone from my counter. 110/ 2015

From Heather S:

First picture is 55 CDs plus 8 other items. Then 210 CDs. And then 6 other items plus a cd shelf. And I got rid of 4 yearbooks and an ornament that broke through the whole process. Busy day!!! But I have more space!!! All these CDs are on iTunes 100% so out they go.

From Renae P:

I totally found today's decluttering mission! I have a tote full of bath/beauty stuff and I do not want to cram it all in my cabinets and not be able to find anything. That being said, I'm going to keep my favorites and dispose of (donate to the women's shelter, most likely) the rest. Should be interesting to see the number of items that will come from this.
After earlier today, I'm now at 368/2015 items. Some will be donated, others will go to the trash, some has already been donated. I'm pretty ok with the pace of things. Don't really want to rush it and make a mistake.

Darci B:

88 pieces of junk out of my bathroom. I'm up too 324 so far since yesterday. I didn't take pics yesterday though.

From Amber H:

Cleaned out the med box and my closet. Not counting individuals in med box so we will say 10 and 20 clothing items gone!

From Melissa S.:

Another 123 items gone today....36 utensils and gadgets, 36 pairs of underwear , 12 bras, 24 t-shirts and pj pants hubby donated , plus a few odds n' ends. Started the day thinking I'd have a big goose egg on the tally for the first time since I began this challenge. Long day at work. Fortunately, my Late burst of energy really paid off.

Here's the checklist for the next couple weeks. Hopefully it spurs some ideas for you!

  1. Good luck to all of you! It is cathartic to purge and get rid of so many of the things in our home. We were lucky(?) in that 2013 we had an involuntary purge with the flooding of our community. We lost so many things and so much "stuff" that, in the end, we will never replace most of what was lost. It is quite freeing not to have all that hanging around. :) If you have to think twice about it...Don't!!

  4. You are such an inspiration! I am doing such a good job so far - including donating some great books to the library! - that my husband has taken me to buy some new furniture to fill some of the empty space I've made. Yippee!

  7. Wow everyone is doing a great job. I plan to go through another bag of things today. Also I plan to count fabric by the yard that I sew up into something meaningful.

  9. I've always been a hoarder of things I might need or someone else might need. It feels good to just box it up, set it out and be done with it.
